Dear Parents

There is something special about a sunny winter's day at preschool. Jackets are zipped up a little tighter, rosy cheeks appear after outdoor play, and the sound of children's laughter seems to fill every corner of the school. It's been another wonderful week at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary, and we're excited to share some of our highlights with you.

Parent Communication

If you think you may have missed any emails from the school recently, please check your Junk or Spam folder, as some parents have found our correspondence there. Adding our school email addresses to your safe senders list can also help ensure you receive future correspondence.

We are also pleased to let you know that the Ed-admin Parent Portal and App are now back online following the recent outage. You may notice the occasional minor glitch over the next few days while the system settles, but normal communication and access to school information have resumed. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A Peek Into Our Week 

Crackerjacks

Our Crackerjacks have had a fun and colourful week! It has been wonderful to see how quickly everyone has settled back into their routine, arriving each morning excited and ready for the day ahead. The classrooms have been filled with laughter as the children have enjoyed being together and taking part in all our activities.

This week, we explored a different colour each day. We discovered bold red on Monday, calming blue on Tuesday, cheerful yellow on Wednesday and vibrant green on Thursday, before celebrating all the colours together on Friday with a day full of creativity, fun and play.

One of the highlights of the week was our visit from the Reptile Garden. The children amazed us with their curiosity and bravery as they had the opportunity to pet and hold a variety of reptiles. It was wonderful to watch them approach each animal with growing confidence, and many were incredibly proud of themselves for trying something new. Experiences like these help children build confidence, develop a respect for nature and create memories that they will talk about for a long time to come.

Grade 000

This week in the Tiggers and Piglets classes, we have been exploring our exciting new theme, My Garden.

Our discussions have centred around all the wonderful things we can find in a garden and how plants grow. We have been learning that plants need water, whether from the rain or from people watering them, as well as plenty of warm sunshine to help them thrive. The children have enjoyed talking about the beautiful gardens here at school, including our vegetable and herb garden. We took a lovely walk around the grounds, observing the different plants and stopping to smell the fragrant herbs growing in our garden.

Our art activity this week has been creating spectacular trees that represent the four seasons. The children have decorated their trees with delicate spring blossoms, vibrant green summer leaves, colourful autumn foliage and sparkling “icy snow” for winter. Their creativity has truly shone through, and the finished artwork looks absolutely beautiful.

We also had a very exciting surprise this week when we were treated to a super scaly reptile show! The children were fascinated by the variety of reptiles that came to visit, including a magnificent boa constrictor, a small brown house snake, two delightfully chubby geckos and two tortoises who entertained us with a very “speedy” race. There were also several other interesting reptiles for the children to observe and learn about, making it a wonderful hands-on learning experience. It was certainly one of the highlights of our week, and the excitement and curiosity on the children’s faces made it a visit to remember!

Grade 00

This week in the classroom was packed with hands-on learning, starting with an unforgettable visit from a giant yellow python that our brave little ones loved holding together! Outside, the kids collaborated on the chalk easel, turning the playground into an open-air art studio. Inside, messy fun took over as everyone used finger paints to bring the four seasons to life on their tree printouts. It was truly a week full of laughter, teamwork, and colourful memories!

Grade R 

What a wonderfully sensory-filled few days we’ve had in Grade R! 

Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as we’ve explored our amazing senses through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. 

The children loved creating fluffy sheep, textured “feely” monsters using clay, feathers, buttons and other exciting materials, and beautiful lavender bushes using their hands and fingers. We experimented with scented jelly paint, tea-infused water and even colourful ice, discovering that art can be enjoyed in so many different ways!

We explored a range of wonderful scents through smell hunts, fragrant herbs from Chef Kerry’s garden, and nature walks, while also discovering different textures through sensory tables, playdough, glitter, leaves and a variety of creative materials. 

Along the way, we strengthened our fine motor skills by cutting, drawing, painting and creating, while practising the letter Zz through fun zebra-themed activities. 

To top it all off, we had an exciting visit from the reptile show, where the children were fascinated as they learnt about a variety of incredible reptiles. It has been a wonderful few weeks filled with curiosity, creativity, exploration and plenty of messy fun as our little learners discovered more about the amazing world around them through their senses!

Aquarium Puppet Show

5 August – Grade 0000
6 August – Grade 000 and Grade 00

Our youngest learners will enjoy I Love Turtles, an interactive puppet show featuring Hatch the Turtle and his friends – Tinks the Tortoise, Whiskers the Mouse and Edgar the Eagle. The story also includes a surprise visit from a special birthday girl, who helps teach the children to make good choices and care for our oceans by reducing marine litter.

Cost: R90 per child (including a book). This amount will be billed to your school account.

Cake Sales – A Monthly Treat!

Each grade has the opportunity to contribute to a cake sale, and the children eagerly look forward to their special treat. We ask that cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc., be sent to the class on the allocated cake sale date. Please ensure all items are nut-free and do not include sweets.

To keep appetites in check, we recommend that children spend no more than R2 at the cake sale. You may send R2 on the day in a sealed envelope/packet or prepay for the quarter (R6 per term, R24 for the year).

Grade R Graduation

Heads Up: Graduation Photographs - Thursday, 3 September

The very special Grade R Graduation photographs will be taken on Thursday, 3 September during the morning. A treasured keepsafe for many years to come! 

On the morning of Thursday, 3 September, please send your little one to school dressed in the following: 

Girls:

• Pink full-length ballet tights (available from Belinda at Ballet Basics 021 558 9897 / 074 114 6661 or Dance Euphoria 021 557 6887)

• White or light coloured underwear (with no pictures)

• Ballet shoes for those that have. (The school will supply the girls with ballet shoes if they do not have a pair).

• A graduation cape and dress will be supplied for the photographs.

Please tie your daughter’s hair into a neat pony, should it be long enough. Please ensure that every item is clearly marked with your child’s name and that a change of clothes is sent for the remainder of the day after the photographs.

Congratulations to the Secondary Faculty on an outstanding production of High School Musical 2!

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making it such a fun, memorable and thoroughly enjoyable event.

Congratulations to every cast member, as well as everyone who worked both on and behind the stage. It was especially lovely to recognise so many of the performers from their days at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. Seeing how they have grown over the years and watching them perform with such confidence and enthusiasm was a wonderful reminder of the journey our children take through the College.

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you for a truly memorable production.
