Pre-Primary Weekly Memo
16 August 2024

Dear Parents

As we journey through another exciting week of learning and growing, I want to take a moment to focus on something incredibly important—the holistic development of children. Holistic development is about nurturing all aspects of a child’s growth, from their emotional and social skills to their physical and cognitive abilities. It’s a comprehensive approach that helps shape well-rounded individuals who are ready to take on the world.

Emotional Development: Building Strong Foundations

Children's emotional well-being is the cornerstone of their overall development. They must learn to recognise and express their feelings healthily. In our classrooms, we create a supportive environment where children feel safe to share their emotions. This helps them build resilience and develop the emotional intelligence they’ll need throughout their lives.

Social Development: Learning to Connect

Developing strong social skills is crucial for children’s ability to build meaningful relationships. Through activities that encourage cooperation, sharing, and effective communication, we help them navigate the complexities of social interactions. Playtime is not just fun—it’s a key component of social learning, allowing children to practice these skills naturally and engagingly.

Physical Development: Growing Strong and Healthy

Physical development is another vital aspect of a child’s growth. Active play, whether it’s running, jumping, or simply exploring the playground, is essential for developing motor skills and coordination. Alongside this, a balanced diet supports their physical growth and gives them the energy they need to explore and learn.

Cognitive Development: Encouraging Curiosity and Learning

Children are naturally curious, and it’s our responsibility to nurture that curiosity into a lifelong love of learning. We provide a variety of activities that challenge and stimulate their minds, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By balancing structured lessons with unstructured play, we create an environment where cognitive growth can flourish.

Holistic development is most effective when it’s supported both at school and at home. We’re excited to share this journey with you and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our young learners.

A Library Adventure

JUST SO STORIES

It is fascinating to think that Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories were first published in 1902. This collection of twelve animal tales has enthralled many generations of children, and new retellings appear all the time, often as a single story in paperback format for younger children. We have just acquired some more from North Riding Publishers: How the Rhino Got His Skin and How the Leopard Got His Spots.

Young children love hearing stories about animals, and these fables have stood the test of time because they are humorous while imparting some empathy and wisdom, neatly parcelled in a message to think and talk about.
