Pre-Primary Weekly Memo
21 February 2025

Dear Parents

As another week comes to a close, we reflect on the wonderful moments shared across the school. From engaging activities to small yet meaningful milestones, it has been a joy to see the children explore, learn, and grow together. Their curiosity and enthusiasm continue to bring energy to our days, making each moment special.

Sensory Tuesday - 25 February

Get ready for a messy, magical adventure! Sensory Tuesday is all about exploration, creativity, and hands-on learning through sensory play. Engaging in sensory activities helps children develop fine motor skills, cognitive growth, problem-solving abilities, and creativity—all while having loads of fun!

Next Tuesday, 25 February, we invite our little ones to dive into the world of textures and imagination with gloop and box construction. Expect sticky fingers and squishy fun.

We can’t wait to see the joy and excitement as they squish, squeeze, build, and explore!

Wheelie Wednesday

Every Wednesday, our little ones embark on a whizzing adventure as they explore anything with wheels! From go-karts and scooters to toy cars and wheelbarrows, they get to navigate the environment in a fun and active way. This week, the driveway was alive with excitement as the children zoomed up and down, experimenting with different ways to move and play. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to develop balance, coordination, and confidence while having an absolute blast. We love seeing their joyful smiles and racing spirit each week!

Thank You from Rabbit's House

A big thank you to Keanu for generously donating books, puzzles, and construction toys! Our class is absolutely loving them.

Outreach Contribution

Thank you to everyone who donated R20 on Friendship Day—we raised an incredible R3,500! Your generosity has been paid forward to Friends Day Centre, helping to make a positive impact on the children they support.

Cake Sales

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parents for your support in making the cake sale a wonderful success! Your generosity brought big smiles to the children’s faces, and they truly enjoyed their special treats.

Hat Policy

As the weather remains hot, we kindly ask all parents to ensure that their children wear a hat when playing outside, especially during outdoor activities such as extra-murals. The sun is very harsh, and protecting our children's skin is a priority. To encourage this, we are reintroducing the ‘No Hat, No Play’ rule.

Please also ensure that your child has a layer of sunblock applied each morning. Teachers will reapply sunblock before outdoor play.

Thank you for your support!

Water Bottles

We have noticed that many children do not have water bottles at school. Please ensure that your child brings a clearly labeled water bottle each day. Staying hydrated is essential, especially in the heat, and having their own bottle makes it easier for teachers to encourage regular water breaks.

Lost Property

Lost and Found – Still Waiting!

Shoes and sweaters, bottles too,
Looking for their rightful crew!
Left behind without a name,
Waiting for their claim to fame!

A little label, big relief,
Ends the mystery—oh, so brief!
So mark your things, don’t let them roam,
And help them find their way back home!

Library Adventure

The Worry Monsters first made their appearance during the COVID period. These furry monsters eat worries for breakfast, lunch and dinner and assist young children with verbalising their feelings and concerns. Since then, the series has grown, and this precious letter addressed to the Worry Monsters is from Stu. His best friend is moving away and Stu really wants to hug him. What to do?

Luckily Stu's sister, Frettie, is a Worry Monster expert. She helps Stu to write the letter, and the monsters respond with lots of ideas to get the warm feeling that he thought only a hug could give. This beautifully illustrated book is all about staying connected when you are separated from your loved ones.

Perfect for 3 to 6 year olds, it is a wonderful resource for parents and teachers to address those niggle everyday worries.

Celebrating Our Incredible HyperionBots!

This past Saturday, our fantastic First Tech Team (FTC), the HyperionBots, competed in the National Championships and secured an amazing 2nd place finish!  Their hard work, creativity, and determination truly shone in this year’s "Submerged" theme, where teams were tasked with designing robots to tackle underwater-inspired engineering challenges.

In the FIRST® Tech Challenge, students collaborate with mentors to design, build, and program robots, applying their STEM skills to compete in dynamic matches. After programming robots to follow autonomous commands, students take control in two-on-two matches! HyperionBots showcased incredible teamwork, technical skill, and innovation throughout the competition.

We are thrilled to announce that their remarkable performance has earned them an invitation to the World Championship in Houston, Texas, this April!  We couldn’t be prouder of their achievement and are excited to cheer them on as they compete on the global stage!

Conclusion

We look forward to Fruit Kebab Day on Friday, 28 February! It’s always a delight to see the children enjoy selecting and threading colourful, delicious fruits onto skewers, creating their own tasty and nutritious treats. This hands-on activity not only encourages healthy eating but also helps develop fine motor skills and a sense of independence. We can’t wait for a fun-filled day of fruity creativity!

Enjoy the weekend!
