Dear Parents
Spring is in the air, and with it comes the joyful hustle and bustle of a quarter already in full swing. With the sun peeping out from behind the clouds, our children are enjoying more opportunities to explore, play, and discover. Play is at the very heart of learning during these early years—it sparks curiosity, builds imagination, develops problem-solving skills, and nurtures social connections. Whether indoors or out in the sunshine, every playful moment is a stepping stone in your child’s growth and development.
Friendly Reminder
Our doors open at 07:15 each morning. School officially begins at 07:30, and for families who arrive a little earlier, we offer a supervised early care session in the foyer from 07:15.
Please use the link below to sign your child up for the Spring Quarter Extra Murals.
Sign-ups close on Tuesday, 23 September 2025. No late sign-ups will be allowed, as there are only 8 weeks available for the 8 guaranteed lessons.
Extra murals will start on the first day back next quarter, 14 October 2025.
Each grade has the opportunity to contribute to a cake sale, and the children eagerly look forward to their special treat. We ask that cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc., be sent to the class on the allocated cake sale date. Please ensure all items are nut-free and do not include sweets.
To keep appetites in check, we recommend that children spend no more than R2 at the cake sale. You may send R2 on the day in a sealed envelope/packet or prepay for the term (R6 per term, R24 for the year).
5 September: Grade 00 Cake Sale

Our theme is “How We Have Grown”, and the tots have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We spoke about how it all begins with a tiny egg, which hatches into a hungry little caterpillar. The caterpillar eats and grows until it forms a chrysalis (cocoon), where it rests and changes. Finally, it emerges as a beautiful butterfly!
To make this theme fun and hands-on, the children created caterpillars using their own fingerprints. For the chrysalis, we used a stick and a leaf to give them a different sensory experience. Next, we will be exploring the butterfly stage together.
Just like the butterfly changes through different phases, our children are also growing, learning, and blossoming into the most beautiful versions of themselves.
This week, our Tots 2 friends had such fun exploring the magic of marble art! With just a tray, a splash of paint, and a few rolling marbles, the children discovered how movement and colour can come together to create something wonderful.
As the marbles rolled across the tray, little hands worked hard to tip and tilt, strengthening fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The children experimented with different ways to move the marbles, learning that each tilt and turn created new, colourful lines and swirls. It was wonderful to see them problem-solving, sharing ideas, and delighting in the patterns they made.
Most of all, this activity gave our tots the joy of expressing their creativity in a playful, sensory-rich way - proof that learning can be both fun and full of wonder!
The Grade 000s wrapped up the fascinating Life Cycle theme by completing their very own frog pond - complete with lily pads and the most colourful frogs!
We’ve now zoomed ahead to the exciting new theme of Transportation! This week, the children have been learning all about transport on land and road safety. They’ve loved singing along to “I’m Driving in My Little Yellow Car” and “The Traffic Light Song,” which have had us all tapping our toes and learning the rules of the road with great joy.
Our little learners have also been expanding their vocabulary with words like passenger, pedestrian, engine, and windscreen. They’ve been counting and identifying the different parts of a car, such as four wheels and two windscreen wipers, which provides a fun and practical way to develop numeracy skills.
At the art tables, creativity zoomed ahead as the children drew patterns using cars with kokis attached to them, watching in delight as the cars ‘drove’ across the paper. The painting table transformed into a mini roadway, where cars dipped in paint created colourful tracks on black paper!
For sensory play, we had a blast blowing bubbles using straws and soapy water. Besides being loads of fun, bubble blowing supports important developmental skills. It helps children develop oral motor strength, breath control, and coordination - all of which support speech development. Watching and popping bubbles also enhances visual tracking and hand-eye coordination. Plus, there's just something magical about bubbles!
With the weather warming up, the Honey Bees have been soaking up the sunshine and enjoying plenty of fun-filled moments outdoors with friends!
This week, we dove into the fascinating Life Cycle of a Bee. Our curious little learners were full of thoughtful questions and excitement as they explored the journey of these incredible pollinators. During art time, the children created beautiful honeycomb paintings and made their very own adorable bees, each one as unique as they are!
Teacher Nikki also led a delightful discussion on all the wonderful things we can find on a playground. Inspired by this, our budding engineers put their creativity to work in STEAM PARK, designing and building imaginative playgrounds that showcased their innovation and enthusiasm.
It’s been a week full of learning, laughter, and sunshine and an overall buzz-worthy time in the Honey Bees class!
This week, the Pooh Bears have been buzzing with excitement as we wrapped up our Life Cycle theme and welcomed the Bees into our classroom learning! 🐝
We discovered the Queen Bee who rules the hive, the busy female worker bees with their stingers, and the drones – the males who take life a little easier with no stingers at all! The children loved learning about how each bee has a special job to do.
Our classroom quickly turned into a hive of activity as the Pooh Bears created their own beehives dripping with golden ‘honey’ and filled them with little bees to call them home. The children worked un-bee-lievably hard and we are so proud of their bee-autiful creations!
What a buzzing end to our theme. We think the Pooh Bears are the bee’s knees!
What a fun and exciting week we’ve had in our Grade R class! We kicked things off with some awesome box construction. The children let their imaginations run wild as they built gigantic robots! There was lots of cutting, sticking, decorating, and best of all… sharing! Everyone showed so much patience with the glue and took great pride in their amazing creations.
Our theme this week centered on nonfiction books. We learned that these special books give us real information. We also discovered that the person who writes the book is called an author, and the one who draws the pictures is an illustrator (what a big word!). The Kangas had a blast making their very own nonfiction books with colourful covers. At the end of each day, we looked forward to Show and Tell, where the children brought in their favourite books to share with the class, and we had so much fun listening, looking, and learning together!
As part of our book theme, the Owls have been learning all about books- from the title, author, illustrator, and publisher, to the different parts that make up a book. To put their knowledge into practice, the children created their very own books about various life cycles. They were so proud to be “authors and illustrators” of their own stories! We also enjoyed a special visit to the library, and one of our learners even did his show and tell about his favourite book, which inspired lots of excitement and sharing.
In Rabbit’s House, we have loved the sunny weather this week and the opportunity to play outside on the big bikes and tennis courts. In ball skills, our learners have been practising their coordination while playing a hoop and cone game and throwing balls into hoops at different heights.
We have loved learning about our letter sounds, and over the past few weeks, our letter table has been bursting with objects beginning with F, such as fairy dolls and feathers, as well as B items, including balls, boxes, and bats.
We have enjoyed our listening and auditory recall skills by playing games such as “broken telephone” in IsiXhosa lessons, as well as “My grandmother went to the market and bought…” after story time.
Nothing fills a little boy’s heart with as much happiness as a truck. This, of course, includes anything with wheels, from a fire truck to motorcycles, construction vehicles, rubbish trucks, tractors, and don’t forget trains and planes! This fantastic book by illustrator Maria Brzozowska will bring much delight and lots to discuss. Every double-page spread (in a suitable large size) contains vehicles from all over the world, with some unusual models to explore. The book even includes a visit to a scrapyard and some models from the past. An added treat is that the book is interactive with many items to search for, and questions on every page to get the conversation started. Young vehicle lovers will love the fun wheely facts. This is going to be a great favourite to share!

As part of our upcoming Open Day, we would like to extend a special invitation to our Grade R parents to join us for a walkabout of the Grade 1 classrooms. This will give you a glimpse into the learning spaces and experiences that lie ahead, and help make the transition into Grade 1 a little more familiar and exciting for both you and your children.
In the spirit of supporting our national team during the upcoming rugby games, we’re inviting all our learners to join in the fun and wear their South African gear or Bokkie shirts to school on the following dates:
5 September
12 September
Let’s fill our classrooms with green and gold, show our proudly South African spirit, and cheer the Bokke on to victory!
We are so excited to welcome our “special people” into the classroom. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with your little one, share in their world, and take part in a fun classroom activity together. The children can’t wait to show you what they’ve been learning and to create a special memory together with you.
Kindly RSVP to your class teacher.
Spring is here, and what better way to celebrate than by supporting a cause close to our hearts! On Monday, 1 September, we will be raising funds for the SPCA. A contribution of R20 will be billed to your account, and our little ones are invited to come dressed up as their favourite animal to show their support. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to have fun, express their creativity, and learn about the importance of caring for animals. We can’t wait to see the joy and excitement as our classrooms are filled with lions, bunnies, puppies, and more - all in aid of this worthy cause!
A very big thank you to all our parents for the generous clothing donations. We received a beautiful message and photos from Grace Outreach, who shared how your contributions touched the hearts of children in desperate need in Heidelberg, along the N2.
Although their little faces cannot be shown, please know that your kindness has brought comfort, joy and hope to these children. We are deeply humbled and grateful for your support in helping us reach out to them.
