Dear Parents
(Inspired by Twinkl)
At preschool, we celebrate every small step children take as they learn, explore, and grow. One of the most valuable skills we can nurture in these early years is resilience — helping children bounce back from challenges, adapt to change, and keep trying when things don’t go as planned.
Resilience doesn’t mean children won’t face difficulties. It means they’ll have the tools and support to handle them with confidence. When we model calm, celebrate effort, and encourage problem-solving, we’re helping our little ones discover that they can do hard things.
🌿 Here are a few simple ways to build resilience at home:
Give your child time to try solving small problems on their own — a little struggle builds confidence.
Talk openly about mistakes and show that it’s okay to start again.
Let your child see you handle stress calmly — they learn most from what we do.
Praise effort, not just results.
Keep those warm, loving connections strong. A secure relationship gives children the courage to try again.
💬 Gentle phrases that help:
“It’s okay to feel upset.”
“You can do hard things.”
“Mistakes help our brains grow.”
“Let’s figure this out together.”
“Every time you try, you’re getting stronger.”
Resilience grows slowly — through play, encouragement, and love. Each time we help our children try again, take a breath, or believe in themselves, we’re building something beautiful for their future.
Each grade has the opportunity to contribute to a cake sale, and the children eagerly look forward to their special treat. We ask that cupcakes, popcorn, crisps, muffins, etc., be sent to the class on the allocated cake sale date. Please ensure all items are nut-free and do not include sweets.
To keep appetites in check, we recommend that children spend no more than R2 at the cake sale. You may send R2 on the day in a sealed envelope/packet or prepay for the term (R6 per term, R24 for the year).

What a cheerful week we’ve had! Our tiny tots enlightened the garden with their bright smiles for Class Photo Day and they looked absolutely beautiful all together in their group photo. Such a special moment to capture!
On Monday the Tiny Tots got to decorate a biscuit in celebration of International Chefs day.
We also explored our creativity through painting to continue our Spring theme with expressing big ideas with colourful strokes, stamping and pasting along with the sunshine on our side, water play was wonderful and further added to the spring theme it was a week full of laughter, splashing, and joyful memories.
We’re already looking forward to more adventures next week!
This week in our classroom, we continued our exciting journey learning all about Spring! The children explored the beauty of the season through a creative and colourful art activity, making their very own butterflies.
We began by mixing different colours of paint onto one side of a piece of paper. Then came the fun part, folding the paper in half and pressing down to see the beautiful patterns appear when it was opened again! The children were delighted to see how the colours blended and created their own unique butterfly wings.
Once our butterflies were dry, we made a special background using bubble wrap as a stamp. The children loved dipping the bubble wrap in paint and pressing it onto their paper to make interesting textures and prints. This activity was a wonderful way to strengthen their fine motor skills and creativity while exploring colours, patterns, and the joy of springtime art.
Our classroom is now filled with beautiful, bright butterflies, a perfect way to celebrate the season of growth and new beginnings!
The Tots 2 thoroughly enjoyed celebrating International Chefs Day by decorating yummy Marie biscuits! 🍪 A big thank you to Chef Kerry for all the delicious and nutritious meals you prepare for us each day — our little tummies say thank you! ❤️
The Tots 2 also ventured out to the 100 Acre Wood Garden, where they had a wonderful time playing in the pirate ship and chasing their friends. The air was filled with love, laughter and joyful giggles, a perfect way to end a fun filled week! 🌿⚓
The Grade 000 have had a very exciting week!
We loved celebrating Chef Kerry on Chef's Day by making chef hats and icing our own biscuits. Thank you, Chef Kerry, for all you do for us!
We have been enthusiastically practising our concert songs and are super excited to perform for everyone at the year-end concert.
We have loved the warm spring weather and took the opportunity to cool down by running through the sprinklers on the grassy banks in the driveway!
Our magical theme on books continues. We’ve been learning new words like title, author, illustrator, and many more. Some of our little ones have even decided that they would like to be authors and illustrators when they grow up! At the art table, we are busy creating our very own “Very Hungry Caterpillar” books. We continue to enjoy reading our favourite books from home during story time, and we’ve even had some spontaneous puppet shows with the class puppets! There’s something truly timeless and special about books — they hold endless learning opportunities and are wonderful for sharing quality, joy-filled moments. As Dr Seuss so beautifully said, “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book!”
This week, we celebrated International Chefs Day with our amazing Chef Kerry! She planned such wonderful activities for our little ones, from colouring and creating their own chef hats to icing and decorating biscuits. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and delicious treats! A big thank you to Chef Kerry and Assistant Chef Rita for all that they do to make our days so special.
In class, we explored opposites and created an exciting Agamograph showing day vs. night. The children were absolutely delighted by the “magic” of their creations coming to life!
We’ve also been practising writing skills and shape recognition, supporting important areas such as fine motor development, phonemic awareness, and letter and shape formation. These foundational skills help our curious Honey Bees grow in confidence as they continue learning through fun and play!
Celebrating Our Wonderful Chefs! This week we celebrated Chef’s Day, a special time to say a big thank you to our amazing Chef Kerry and Chef Rita for the endless hard work they do for us in the kitchen each and every day. We are so grateful for the love, care, and effort they put into preparing our delicious meals.
To mark the occasion, we had great fun decorating yummy Marie biscuits with 100s and 1000s, marshmallows, Smarties, and colourful icing—and then enjoyed our creations as a sweet treat! Thank you, Chef Kerry and Chef Rita, for all that you do to keep our tummies happy and our
hearts full! 💛🍪
This week in Kanga’s House has been roaringly exciting as we travelled back in time to the world of dinosaurs! We became little palaeontologists (that’s a big word for dinosaur scientists!) and learned about some amazing dinosaurs like the Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Brachiosaurus, and Velociraptor. We discovered that some dinosaurs ate plants while others ate meat, and that fossils help us learn what they looked like millions of years ago. During Show and Tell, everyone shared their favourite dinosaur toys, pictures, and facts. It was wonderful to see how much we’ve all learned and how excited everyone was to talk about their favourite dinosaurs!
We also had lots of fun getting a little messy while making our very own clay fossils. We used small dinosaur toys to press into the clay and make amazing footprints and fossil shapes, just like real palaeontologists might find in the ground! Our classroom looked like a mini fossil dig site. To finish off our prehistoric week, we danced to some fun dinosaur songs, stomping, roaring, and swishing our tails like real dinosaurs. It’s been a week full of big roars, big smiles, and big learning in Kanga’s House! 🦕🦖
The Tickety Tale Teller lived in a huge, tall tower, called Tall Stories. The tower was absolutely crammed from top to bottom with lovely books to read! The children of the town would wave a flag from their windows whenever they felt like listening to a story. As the demand for stories grew, the storyteller got so busy that she could not keep up anymore. She tried a few innovative ideas to reach a bigger audience at the same time, and did not give up until she found a way to get the whole town reading and sharing stories.
This is a lovely book to introduce the joy of reading and stories to young children, and it includes some useful notes and ideas for parents and teachers. Perfect for ages 3 - 5.

Dear Parents
The Junior Preparatory Faculty cannot wait to welcome your little one to Grade 1 in 2026. I look forward to getting to know them and will visit their class near the end of the year to read a story and introduce myself.
Although the children will have a "pop in" during the school day to meet their teacher on Wednesday 26 November, there will also be a special Orientation for them to spend some time with their teachers on Friday, 16 January 2026 from 8:30 - 9:30. During this time we invite parents to join us for a Parent Meeting which will outline important information about the daily activities and requirements in Grade One.
The Grade One school day begins promptly at 08:00 (school opens at 07:30 for drop-off) and ends at 14:00. However, to support our Grade Ones in adjusting to the change in routine, their school day will end at 12:00 from Tuesday 20 January to Friday 23 January. If your child is enrolled in aftercare, they will stay with their teachers until aftercare starts at 14:00. From the following week, school ends every day at 14:00, and you may collect your children from their classrooms or aftercare. Sport will start on Tuesday 27 January 2026 and takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday from 13:00 to 14:00, during the school day.
On these days as well as PE days the learners may come to school dressed in their PE Kit. Please note that the learners all swim in their classes during PE. If your child is unable to swim, please enrol them in a reputable swim school. Class specific timetables will be shared by the teacher and the sporting and extramural programme on offer will be sent to parents in our Weekly Memo.
Please refer to the Welcome Letter, Frequently Asked Questions, Stationery and Textbook (Caxtons) letter and list as well as Uniform (sport clothes are worn at least twice a week) and iPad Requirements and Discount Voucher. Books DO NOT need to be covered as the children will make the covers in class and the teachers will cover the books with the slip-on plastic covers. In addition to this please ensure your child has a combination lock, an old T-shirt to use for art and a set of headphones compatible with their iPad.
